Pioneer Woman of Utah County is Dead
Nov 22--Funeral services for Mrs Mary H Adams, widow of Joshua Adams, who died Monday will be held in the First ward chapel at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov 23. Interment will be in the American Fork Cemetery.
Mrs Adams, daughter of James and Emily Hoggard was born Nov 22, 1843, at Nollinghamshire, England. She came to America with her parents in 1852 and crossed the plains in 1855. She married Joshua Adams July 26, 1862. The lived near Pelican Point for many years. Once when her husband was away Chief Black Hawk and a number of his warriors came to the cabin. She prepared a meal for them and Chief Black Hawk slept at the fire place while his warriors slept in the hay barn.
She was active for years in Primary and Relief Society work.
Of her 12 children the following survive: Mrs Thomas S [Emily] Kelley, Mrs Joseph [Cynthia] Ockey, James and George Adams, American Fork; Mrs E J [Mary] Robinson, Bingham; Mrs Joseph E [Zina] Wilkins, Sandy; Leonard E and Alfred F Adams, Salt Lake; also 31 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 5 brothers and sisters.
