Obituary for Peggy Cockrell
Peggy Cockrell, age 79, passed away with her husband by her side on Friday, August 7, 2020, at her residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Sunday, August 9 at Murphy Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Mayo and Bro. Mike Fuller officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 10:15 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will immediately follow in Murphy Creek Cemetery. The family encourages everyone to follow COVID-19 precautions.
Peggy was born in Winston County on January 14, 1941 to Henry and Ruby Hooks Eaves. She was married to the love of her life, Ray, for 60 years. They spent many hours side-by-side fishing, which they both loved. She spent time every day reading her Bible. From an early age until her health declined and she was no longer able to attend, Peggy was an active member of Murphy Creek Baptist Church where she served for many years as Sunday school secretary. Peggy enjoyed “coffee time” with her brother, Harry, every day.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Ray Cockrell, of Louisville; her sister Jean Nall of Clinton, Mississippi; her sister-in-law Dean Eaves also of Louisville; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Mildred Arnett and Jackie “Sweetie” Bunch, and her brothers Elmer Eaves, Welton Eaves, and Harry Eaves.
Serving as pallbearers are Lee Pearson, Rylee Pearson, Ricky Tanksley, Darry Crowell, Donnie Hisaw, and Taylor Tucker.
Services are under the direction of Nowell-Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by signing the guest register at www.nowellmasseyfuneralhome.com.
