Glen was the first of two sons of Lebert E. Jordan (1877-1963) and his first wife Isabelle C. (Belle) Grogan (1879-1913). His brother was Eugene Patrick (Gene), born 1903. Their mother died when they were young and their father remarried and added five more siblings to the family with his second wife Alfrida Orn. When he registered for the draft at age 18, Glen was working as a farm laborer in Minneapolis (at 1401 East River Road). He enlisted in the Navy as a mariner and the 1920 census shows him as a crew member, a seaman 2nd class, of the USS Texas and lists his home address as that of the farm where he worked in 1918.
On 5 May 1922 in Minneapolis, he married his cousin Mary Ellen Meacham (1900-1976). The couple had three children. Their first child, a daughter, died in infancy (1935). The second child was a daughter named Jean Greta (born 1926) and the third a son named Monte Ben (1927-2011).
On 26 September 1937 in Santa Ana, California, Glen married a second time, to Olive Sylvia Holm (1898-1981). Their marriage documents indicate that they were both divorced. Glen was a salesman and Olive worked in insurance. Witnesses were Olive's sisters Lola and Carol and Carol's husband Harold Lovold.
By 1940, the couple lived in Los Angeles, which remained their home. In 1940, Glen had his own advertising business and Olive was office manager for an insurance firm. When he registered with the draft board in 1942, Glen worked for the "Palmer Institute of Authorship" in North Hollywood and he and Olive lived in Glendale. The Institute, a correspondence school, provided instruction to professional writers.
The couple had no children.
