Funeral services for Mrs. Claudia H. Minga, a member of Winona's pioneer families were held last Friday, May 12 at Lee Funeral Home Chapel.
Mrs. Minga who was 83 years old died May 10 at Holmes Memorial Hospital, after an extended illness.
A native of Winona, she was the daughter of Congressman and Mrs. Wilson Shedrick Hill and the granddaughter of Senator Hernando DeSoto Money, both noted for their contributions in state and national political affairs.
Mrs. Minga was a graduate of the old Grenada College and also attended private school in Washington, D.C. She was the wife of the late J. A. Minga.
Long active in Winona civic, social, and church circles, she was a member for many years of the Winona Woman's Club and held a number of offices in the organization. She was a member of Moore Memorial Methodist Church and participated in the various activities of the church
Officiating at the funeral services was Rev. William Kemp. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery, with Lee in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Minga is survived by a son, Col. I.U.S. Air Force. Ret. Guy W. Hester, and a daughter, Mrs. Jane Wilkes, both of Winona; five grandchildren, Dr. Gloria Hester, Zambia; James H. Holmes, Duck Hill; and Mrs. Speights Duncan, Mrs. Herndon Wilkins, and Ronnie Holmes, all of Jackson; also, six great-grandchildren, Cheryl Holmes, Clifford Holmes, Guy Wilkins, Charles Wilkins, Tommy Duncan and Sheila Duncan, all of Jackson.
Pallbearers were Shed Hill Hunger. B. C. Glenn. Jewel Bowen. Spence Townsend, Ellis Hart. Jack Groce, Harry Simmons, and Bobby Hemphill; honorary pallbearers were Aubrey Boone, L. V. Stringer, Ralph Applewhite, P. H. Money, J. L. Whitehead. Sr. Dr. W. A. Middleton. Dr. E. W. Holmes, and G. E. McDougal.
