Services Held For Former Winonan At Clarksdale

On Wednesday morning:, November 3rd, Mrs. Celeste Hill Roberson, former Winonan, passed away in the Baptist Hospital in Memphis following a prolonged illness. Services were held in the Episcopal Church of Clarksdale Thursday afternoon, November 4, at three o'clock, with burial in the Clarksdale Cemetery with Mclnness and Porter Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Roberson was a member of a distinguished pioneer family that were leaders in affairs of community and state. She was the daughter of the late ex-congressman and U. S. attorney, Wilson Shedric Hill and the late Claudia Money Hill. Her paternal grandparents were the late Dr. Samuel Hill, one of Winona's early physicians, and the late Elizabeth Witty Hill. On the maternal side, she was the granddaughter of the late U. S. Senator Hernando D. Money and the late Claudia Boddie Money.

Mrs. Roberson was born and reared in Winona, educated in the city schools and the St. Joseph's Convent of Emmittsburg, Maryland. Following her marriage to J. Lake Roberson, Delta attorney, she made her home in Clarksdale where she was active in civic and social affairs until her death. For some years, she was associated with her father and husband in the office of U. S. District Attorney. She was 62 and a member of St. George's Episcopal Church of Clarksdale.

Surviving are her husband, two sons, Shed Hill Roberson and Lake Roberson, Jr., and one daughter, Mrs. Semmes Luckett, all of Clarksdale, nine grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Joseph Roberts of Mt. Holly, N. C., Mrs. Frederick Hutchinson, Elkton, Oregon, and Mrs. Claudia H. Minga of Winona, besides a host of other relatives.
