A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, July 30, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. at Randolph Memorial Park with Pastor Clint Kearns officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Billy was born on December 21, 1943, in Randolph Co., to the late Burl Adam Byrd and Sarah Ada Helms Byrd. He attended Asheboro City and Farmer schools and was a member of Mt. View Independent Methodist Church. Billy proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired as a mechanic for Randolph County School Bus Garage for 29 years. Billy was formerly employed with Nance Chevrolet. He also was a mechanic for Mickey York Racing for 20 years. He was a classic car enthusiast and he even built a 1957 Chevy from the ground up. Billy enjoyed family trips to the beach, collecting arrowheads, being outdoors, and spending time with his grandboys.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Faye Tedder Byrd of the home; son, Craig Adam Byrd and wife Julie of Thomasville; grandsons, Ryan Phillip Byrd, Parker David Byrd; brothers, J.B. Byrd and wife Pat of Asheboro, Roger Byrd and wife Linda of Asheboro; and sister, Carol B. Yates of Panama City Beach, FL; several special nieces and nephews; and good friends, Donald Strider and George Porpeglia.
