Mrs. Melba Cannon Parker of the Outlaw' s Bridge area near Albertson, passed away in the Friday early morning hours. In just a few short days, she would have been 92 years of age. She was the widow of James H. Parker, Jr., known to many as "The Colonel."

Funeral service will be Sunday, July 26, at 3 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home with visitation to follow.
Burial will be at Wayne Memorial Park on Monday, July 27.

Flowers will be welcome, or memorial gifts are suggested by the family to be made to Shriner's Children Hospital, 950 W Faris Rd, Greenville, SC 29605

Melba Cannon Parker, resident of the Outlaw's Bridge community near Albertson, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, July 23, 2020. Death came for her at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington. Had Mrs. Parker lived just a few more days, she would have celebrated her 92nd birthday.
Services will be Sunday, July 26, at 3 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Paul Rose, with visitation to follow. Burial will be Monday, July 27, at 10 a.m.at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mrs. Parker, widow of "The Colonel" James Henry Parker, Jr., is survived by daughter, Jean Stowers of Surf City; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Darlene Parker of Nashville, Ga.; another daughter-in-law, Kaye J. Parker, widow of deceased son, Joseph W. Parker, of Seven Springs; sisters, Reida Best of Goldsboro, Mabel Higgins of Spring Lake; 13 grandchildren, Justina P. Smith, Janelle Parker, Jay Parker (wife, Dr. Joelle Parker), Jessica Parker, Jennifer Bare (husband, Chuck), Josh Outlaw, Amos Parker (wife, Joy Beth), Joseph Jackson Parker, Suzanne Taylor (husband, Clay), Victoria Zell (husband, Alan), Ramana Thomas (husband, Travis), LaMar Ray (wife, Keri), and Scott Ray (wife, Melanie); 21 great-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband, "The Colonel," and son, Joseph, Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Wade Cannon and Zada Cox Cannon; two brothers, Oris Cannon and Joseph Mack Cannon; and five sisters, Margaret C. Daughtry, Mildred C. Midgette, Myrtle C. Joyner, Frances C. Swaney, and Martha C. Butts.
Mrs. Parker was known to be a classy lady who always wore the biggest smile. She was the consummate homemaker, the kind neighbor, the most wonderful wife and mother, and the doting grandma, and loving and caring sister and aunt. Being the wife of a farmer and tobacco auctioneer, she kept the home fires burning whilst "The Colonel" was traveling on tobacco market circuits. While she was a member of Albertson Missionary Baptist Church, she and the Parker family remained faithful friends of the Outlaw's Bridge Universalist Church throughout all of their years.
