The son of the noted Dr. Frederic E. Humphreys, founder of Humphreys Homeopathic Medicines, and his first wife, the former Cornelia Palmer, George Humphreys died at age 29. Born in Chillicothe, Ohio, where his father was then serving as a member of the Methodist-Episcopal ministry, his maternal grandparents were Hester E. and William Palmer of that city, and his paternal grandparents Dr. and Mrs. Erastus Humphreys of Auburn, NY. Predeceased by his mother, who had died when he was a baby, he was brought to New York by his widowed father, who soon married again. At the time of his death, his survivors included his father, his step-mother, and four half-siblings: Helen, Frederick, Jay, and Frank.
