John married his first wife, Ruth Ann Langley, while on furlough from the Army. The marriage took place in May, Missouri, and was conducted by John's father, the Rev. Arthur Fitch, on June 24, 1944. The marriage produced two children, Cathey Jean and James Langley, but unfortunately did not last.
His second marriage in Dayton, Ohio, on September 9, 1964, was to Adeline (Aeh) Smith. With this marriage, John became the step-father of five children.
John resided in Dayton, Ohio, when he was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He was scheduled to have surgery in Cincinnati but sadly died in the hospital of a stoke before the surgery could take place. His parents and a sister, Genevieve, predeceased him.
Rest in gentle peace, John.
