Agnes Gabriel Lagarde, A Retired Teacher And Insurance Agent, Died Of A Stroke Friday At Touro Infirmary. Mrs. Lagarde Was A Lifelong Resident Of New Orleans.

She Was A Graduate Of Xavier Prep High School And Xavier Normal School. She Was An Elementary School Teacher In The St. Charles Parish School System. She Founded The St. Ann Catholic School In Malette, La., In St. Landry Parish . Mrs. Lagarde And A Classmate Taught In A Two-Room School House In Rural Louisiana And Helped Mother Drexel Extend Catholic Education To African-American Children. She Also Taught At Corpus Christi, St. Monica And St. Katherine Catholic Schools And The Orleans Parish Public Schools. She Retired From Johnson Lockett School. She Also Was Employed As An Insurance Agent For St. John Berchman Insurance Co.. Mrs. Lagarde Worked With The Parent Teacher Associations At Xavier Prep And Corpus Christi Schools. She Was Founding President Of The Mothers Club Of St. Augustine High School.

Survivors Include Six Sons, Armand, Gerald, Irwin And Kenwyn Lagarde Of New Orleans And Roland And Wendell Lagarde Of Los Angeles; Three Daughters, Ursula L. Christopher And Sister M. Roland Lagarde Of New Orleans And Thyra A. Lagarde Of Los Angeles;

Two Sisters, Onelia Gabriel Sarpy And Inola Gabriel Heim; A Brother, Eldridge Gabriel Sr.; 27 Grandchildren; And 22 Great-Grandchildren.

Mass Will Be Said Friday At 11 A.M. At Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2022 St. Bernard Ave. Visitation Will Begin At The Church At 8 A.M. Burial Will Be In St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, Resurrection Mausoleum. Charbonnet-Labat Funeral Home Is In Charge Of Arrangements. Times Picayune 06-09-1993
