Margaret (Maggie) was born to William M. Browning and Rachel Simpson 1 November 1867 in McMinnville, Warren, Tennessee. When Maggie was 12, her family moved to Gadsden, Etowah, Alabama, the place where she would eventually marry and raise her children. Maggie participated in the temperance movement, and was an officer in the Queen City lodge of the International Order of Good Templars.

Maggie married Isadore Gasser, a French immigrant who started two large hotels in Anniston, Calhoun, Alabama. Isadore died 12 November 1897, leaving Maggie a widow. Maggie and Isadore had five known children: Pauline Gasser, Isadore Gasser, Leoda Gasser, Rachel Gasser, and Rosalie Gasser.

About eight years after Isadore's death, Maggie married Edwin Pickard on 8 November 1905 in Gadsden. Maggie and Edwin had two known children: Edwin and James.

Edwin preceded Maggie in death on 3 June 1941. Maggie died a few years later on 27 October 1947.
