Rachel M. Simpson Browning was born to Thomas E. Simpson and Salena Bobo Simpson on 5 October 1833. Sher married William M. Browning on 27 September 1849 in Lincoln County, Tennessee. They had the following known children: Lewis T. Browning, Albert F.D. Browning, Silma Mildred Browning, Margaret Browning, Leoda Browning, Hettie Browning, Elizabeth Browning and Mary Ethel Browning. Rachel and William lived in Tennessee until some time after the Civil War when they moved to Gadsden, Etowah, Alabama. After her husband's death, Rachel ran a boarding house to support herself. Rachel died 13 July 1904 in Gadsden.
