Loren Joseph Vanek, 94, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Loren was born on February 9, 1926, in Lewistown, Montana, the oldest son to Frank and Dorothy Vanek. He attended River Echoes grade school near Heron, Montana, and graduated from Noxon High School in 1944. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service during the summer on lookouts in Montana. Loren served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He received his teaching degree from the Univer-sity of Idaho and taught math in Moscow, Idaho, and Forsyth, Montana. He also was a draftsman for Boeing Aircraft in Renton, Washington.

Loren settled in Sandpoint in 1995 and worked as a janitor at the Sandpoint City Hall. He cared for his mother, getting her groceries, taking her to doctor appointments, and to church every Sunday. He was a bachelor, lived along, and enjoyed playing cards and dancing at the Sandpoint Senior Center.

He is survived by his sister, Margie Gondek of Spokane, Wash.; and 12 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Art, twins Jerry and Julian, and his twin sister Lois.
