John Lunsford Robinson was born in Alabama, the son of Rev. John Piland Robinson and Cynthia Sledge. He became a Presbyterian minister. He married Caroline Mitchell on December 24, 1845 and fathered two children by her: Mary Caroline and Emma L. . After his first wife died, he married a second time to Emeline Tipton Soap, the widow of Thomas W. Soap, on September 27, 1854. They were the parents of: Fannie (1855), Annie (1857), Dora (1858), John, Jr. (1859), and Dixie (1863). He was a Confederate soldier, serving in Co. A, 2nd Mississippi Partisan Rangers. He and his family are listed in the 1850 (p. 372), 1860 (p. 171), 1870 (p. 196) and 1880 (p. 593) DeSoto County Census records.
