The following is from a newspaper clipping found at the Blue Earth Co. Historical Society in Mankato, MN. It is in a scrapbook that someone did...where they clipped out various newspaper articles...most likely from the Mankato paper.

MRS.V.S.GARY,61,FORMER MANKATO RESIDENT,DIES

Mrs. V. S. Gary, 61, formerly Johanna Wigen, died at Wink, Texas early Sunday morning after being in ill health for a number of years. She was a former resident of Mankato.

Born at Fergus Falls October 1,1889, Mrs. Gary later moved with her parents to Blue Earth. In 1906 the family came to Mankato. She married Vernard S. Gary in Mankato on December 4,1915. They lived in Texas for many years.

She is survived by her husband, two sons, William Henry and Vernard S. Gary Jr.; three grandchildren, David Sheldon, Steven William and Frances Johanna Gary; two sisters, Elizabeth W. Wigen of Detroit, Mich., and Evelyn Wigen of Mankato, and three brothers, Bert L. Wigen, Phoenix, Ariz.;Lewis B. Wigen, Minneapolis, and Begtrup?Wigen, Mankato.


Notes from Shirley Hemingway: When I visited the Glenwood Cemetery in Mankato in August,2007, I was shown the actual handwritten Cemetery book that listed Johanna's entry. It stated the date of burial was February 8, 1951 and that her ashes were shipped from Texas with a reference to Wink, Texas.
