Man Is Found Dead On Road
Mystery surrounds the death of Myron Ellis Bowles,56 also known as Robert H. Smith, who lived with his sister, Mrs. Myrtle Crabtree, at 4015 Faunce Way. Bowles' body was found on U.S. 299 between Redding and Burney, apparently the victim of an automobile accident. Details of his death are yet unknown.
Scheer Memorial Chapel,where funeral services are pending. reported that the Redding coroner estimated Bowles had been dead about 18 hours before he was found.
The body was taken to McDonald Funeral Home in Redding. Mrs. Crabtree was contacted when her address was found in Bowles wallet.
Bowles was employed by Pacific Gas and Electric Company, working on the new natural gas line from California to Canada. He was employed previously by Price and Bechtel Corporation and worked in the oil fields of Saudi Arabia.
Besides his local sister, he is survived by four sisters, Mrs.Kate Hamann of Minnesota, Mrs. Ethel Tede of New Mexico, Mrs. Ellen Gitchell and Frances Bowles both of Los Angles and two brothers,Ernie Bowles of Sacramento and Stephen Bowles of Torrence.
It is not known why Bowles also used the name "Robert H. Smith".
