Mary Flora Greenman Bowles was the daughter of George Washington and Amanda Catherine Sykes Greenman. She married Stephen Gray June 11,1879.She had 2 children, Edna Mary and George Norman Gray. Mr. Gray died in 1881 on his way to join his wife Mary ( Polly) and little George, 11 months old. . After that Mary married David Franklin Bowles 1851-1924 on February 25,1883. They were the parents of Kate Effie Bowles Hamann,Ellen Martha Bowles Gitchell,Permalia Ethel Bowles Tede,Frances Adeline Bowles,Steve Allen Bowles,Arthur Lee Bowles,Myrtle Leona Bowles Crabtree,Myron Ellis Bowles,David Ernest Bowles.In 1920 from Spring-November Mary was a pastor in the Spring Grove Quarker Church, Miami CO.KS.

BOWLES - Mrs. Mary F. Bowles died Saturday, Sept. 5, at the home of her daughter, Miss Frances Bowles, in Las Cruces, N. M., at the age of 90 years, one month and 19 days. She was born July 16, 1863.
The Bowles family lived for many years in the vicinity of Lane, Paola and Osawatomie. Mrs. Bowles was an active member of the Quaker church, southwest of Osawatomie, for many years. Her husband, David F. Bowles, died in 1924. Mrs. Bowles is survived by 87 descendants, including ten children, 22 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in the Quaker church Thursday, Sept. 10, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Freda Craven in charge. Mrs. Irl Shively sang "In the Garden", "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye". Lela Smith, Eliza Edwards, May Hutchens and Effie Duncan had charge of the flowers. Pallbearers were Curt Duncan, Clarence Heiber, Guy Edwards, Tom McDougal, Charlie Smith and Ira Waggoner. Burial was in the Quaker cemetery under the direction of the Birchard funeral home.
Surviving are 10 children, George Gray and Mrs. Kate Hamann of Northfield, Minn., Frances Bowles and Ethel Tide of Las Cruces, N. M., Mrs. Martha E. Higgins, Los Angeles, Mrs. Myrtle Crabtree and Orville Ernest Bowles of Sacramento, Calif., Steve Bowles, Wellington, Colo., Arthur Bowles, Wellington, Calif., Arthur Ellis Bowles of North Dakota. Seven of the ten children attended the funeral. Twenty-three grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
