Mr. Kris Copeland, a native of Dodson, Louisiana, and longtime resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, passed away July 5, 2020, at Merit Health in Biloxi at the age of 43 years.

Kris was born November 21, 1976, in Ruston, Louisiana, the son of the late Gary Edward and Rhonda Sue (Browning) Copeland. He was a graduate of Dodson High School in Dodson, LA. And he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Northwestern State University in Natchtoches, Louisiana. He also obtained a Master’s Degree from William Carey College near Biloxi.

Kris was a 5th grade science and social studies teacher at West Elementary in Gulfport, where he was an extraordinary educator that was much loved by his students and colleagues. Kris enjoyed playing the piano, where he was considered by many as a professional. His favorite television shows were Seinfield and King of the Hill. He especially loved Mexican food. Kris was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to old music. He especially loved history. Kris was a United States Army Veteran, having served in Iraq.

In addition to his parents, Kris was preceded in death by his grandparents, Preston and Laverne Copeland and Joe and Mattie Browning.

Kris leaves behind to cherish his memory his husband, Adam Morgan; step son, Coleton Powers, father and mother-in-law, Clay and Debbie Morgan; brothers-in-law, Jonah and Seth Morgan; sisters-in-law, Brittany Boudreaux and Miranda Morgan; grandmother-in-law, Bonnie Powell; aunts, Pam Harvey, Frances Chellette, and uncles, Steve Copeland, JoeLynn Browning,Gary Browning, and Danny Browning. He is also survived by three canine companions, Little Leo, Kika, and Uggy.

Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, July 8, 2020, from 1:00 p.m. until the 3:00 p.m. Celebration of Life Service in the chapel at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd in West Jackson County with Mr. Earrol Montgomery-Robertson officiating.

Due to Covid -19 pandemic, only 50 people are allowed to attend, and mask must be worn by all.

Burial will follow in Cypress Creek Baptist Church Cemetery near Dodson, Louisiana, on Thursday, July 9, 2020, at 3:00 p.m, with Brother Clay Morgan officiating.
