Elma Josephine (Asbe) Kalvig, 89, passed away Monday, July 5, 1993 at the Clarion Care Center in Clarion, Iowa.

Elma was born January 8, 1904, the daughter of Thomas and Nellie (Danielson) Asbe, in rural Wright County. She received her education in a rural country school near Kanawha. She was baptized and confirmed at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kanawha, Iowa.

She was united in marriage with Elmer Kalvig of Belmond on November 27, 1919, to which seven children were born. They owned and operated a resturant in Kanawha for several years, then a clothing store, until she retired. She has lived at the Clarion Care Center in Clarion, Iowa for three years. She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kanawha, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her parents, Thomas and Nellie Asbe; two sisters: Tillie Lundy and Bertha Kalvig; a brother: Henry Asbe; an infant brother: Joseph Asbe; a son-in-law: Harry Hamlin. Survivors include three daughters: Naomi Hamlin of Tullahoma, Tennessee; Deloris and her husband, Alvin Harrenstein of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Elaine and her husband, Merlen Hegland of Jewell, Iowa; four sons: Jerome and his wife, Delores Kalvig of Billings, Montana; Elmer and his wife, Iola Kalvig of Des Moines, Iowa; Alvin and his wife, Doris Kalvig of Blackduck, Minnesota; Darrel and his wife, Jeannine Kalvig of Kenyon, Minnesota; 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; a sister: Louise Haxton of Britt, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
