Myrtle Jones Cox Whiteley, age 82, of Corbin passed away on Friday, December 9, 2005 at the Baptist Regional Medical Center.

She was born on April 9, 1923 in North Corbin to the Late General Jones Sr. and Dora Miracle Jones.

She was a retired employee from JCPenny, and a Member of Central Baptist Church in Corbin.

Myrtle was a devoted UK Basketball Fan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husbands, Preston Cox and Robert Whiteley; three Brothers-in-law Edgar Black, Virgil Black and Odell Faulkner; and one Sister-in-law, Aileen Jones.

She is survived by one Daughter, Joyce Cox Newsome of Corbin; Three Grandchildren Kimberly King and husband Jeff of Winchester, Dean Newsome and wife Sonja of Kirkwood, MO, and Jennifer Kyle and husband Tim of London; Four Great Grandchildren; Six Sisters, Bertha Black, Ethel Black, and Betty Sams and husband Dorlyn all of Crown Point, IN, Clara Karr and husband Leslie, Ruby Faulkner, and Elrose Carr and husband Jacob, all of Corbin; Four Brothers, General Jones Jr. and wife Peggy of Lexington, Goble Jones and wife Helen of Burlington, NC, Opal Jones and wife Elizabeth of Mebane, NC, and Jimmy Jones of Corbin; Numerous Nieces and Nephews; and devoted friend Judy Johnson and family of Lexington, KY.

Funeral service will be on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at 11am at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dean Newsome, Jeff King, Tim Kyle, Josh Newsome, David King, Brent Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Kevin Grant, and Will Grant.
