Edwin D. "Corky" Dombrowski, age 92, died Thursday, August 9, 2018, at Saint Mary's Home-East. He was born on June 2, 1926, in Erie, the son of the late Boleslaw and Michalena Rutecki Dombrowski.

Corky was a lifelong resident of Erie, Pennsylvania and a member of St. Stanislaus Parish, where he served for many years as a Lector.

He was an elementary school principal for more than 20 years and before that, a teacher of English and Social Studies. Following retirement from the Erie School District, Corky also taught at St. Stanislaus Grade School for a few years. He earned degrees from both Gannon University and Allegheny College and did graduate work at Edinboro, Case Western Reserve and Syracuse Universities. He served on the Board of Trustees of Edinboro University.

Corky was a longtime member of the Board of Directors of Erie Federal Credit Union (formerly Erie School Employees Federal Credit Union), and served as its chairman for a time. He was a member of the Polish Falcons, Polish Foresters, Holy Trinity Club, and formerly of East Erie Turners and the Erie Maennerchor Clubs. He was an avid pinochle player. He golfed at Lawrence Park Golf Club and later Downing Golf Club. Corky was a longtime member of the Erie Downtown YMCA and enjoyed playing handball there. Corky was also proud of his service as a "55 Alive" driving instructor.

Corky was preceded in death by his brothers, John (Helen), Carl, Raymond and Bernard (Eleanor), and sisters, Estella, Irene (James Malue), Louise (Dan McLaughlin) and Virginia.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Eileen (Ray's wife). Corky was an uncle to 13 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Corky also lived long enough to help welcome several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews to the family.
