Son of James William Eddens and Sarah Ann Elder, second husband of Mary Elizabeth Gaston, whom he married at the South Third Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, New York, on August 15, 1883 in Brooklyn, New York, and father of Mary E. (married Robert Hoffman), and Sarah Forbes Eddens (married Jackson W. Clifford, married John W. Armstrong).

In 1850, William L. Eddens, aged 3, born in Virginia, was living in Richmond, Virginia, in the home of his parents, James W. Eddens, aged 28, born in North Carolina, and Sarah A. Eddens, aged 23, born in Pennsylvania, with his sister, Sarah L. Eddens, aged 8, born in Virginia, and Ann R. Williams, aged 18. his father was shown to be a moulder.

In 1860, William Eddins, aged 12, was living in Western Subdivison, Henrico, Virginia, in the home of his parents, J.W. Eddins, aged 40, and Sarah Eddins, aged 33, and siblings, Sarah Eddins, aged 18, Mary Eddins, aged 10, James Eddins, aged 7, Malissa Eddins, aged 2, and domestics, Mary J. Eddins, aged 35, and Mary J. Bellings, aged 18. His father was shown to be a moulder.

In 1900, William Eddens, aged 52, was living at 579 Leonard Street, Brooklyn, New York, with his wife, Mary E. Eddens, aged 44, whom he married about 1872, and children, Lawrence H. Eddens (Jones), aged 23, Mary E. Eddens, aged 15, and Sarah F. Eddens, aged 12. He was shown to be an engineer.

In 1930, William L. Eddens, aged 82, was living at 22 Everett Street, Lynbrook, Nassau, New York, with his wife, Mary E. Eddens, aged 74, with Lawrence E. Jones, aged 51, and Marjorie E. Clifford, aged 15. He was shown to be a machinist working on post office machinery.

Obituary - William Lucius Eddens. who died at his home in Lynbrook, L.I. last Saturday night, aged 81 years, was buried here in the Gaston family plot in the Union Cemetery on Tuesday at one o'clock. Mr. Eddens was s native of Virginia but had been employed for years in Brooklyn as an expert tool maker and in spite of his advanced age he had worked regularly at his trade until two weeks ago. He was a brother-in-law of Isaac Skinner of Hampton street, this village and is survived by his widow and one daughter.
