PERRY, Jr., Preston Hubert of Rockdale. Age 83. Died 7/9/1988 (Sat.) in Richards Memorial Hospital. Services held (Monday) 7/11 in Philips & Luckey Chapel. Burial in IOOF Cemetery. Rev. Bob Henson officiated.

He was BORN 12/17/1904 in Rockdale to M/M. Preston Hubert & Mary Coffield Perry, Sr. Married Helen Noack on 6/29/1960 in Rockdale. He was a retired rancher and lifelong resident of Rockdale and was an active member of the local business community for many years, serving as president of the Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the City Council. Charter member of Rockdale Rotary Club, representative of the Salvation Army for 19 yrs. Belonged to Rockdale Homecoming Asso., Central Texas Junior Angus Asso., Central Texas Farm Bureau, vestry member of St.Thomas Episcopal Church. Lifetime member of VFW, Amer. Legion and FFA Alumini. Original operator of Central Texas Freight Line in Rockdale and served as independent cotton buyer for Milam and surrounding counties. Owned/operated first radio repair shop in Rockdale and was a ham radio operator, call letters being W5NH. He was instrumental in forming the local ham operator's club. An avid deer hunter for 70 yrs. He formed his own dance band, Preston Perrry & Orchestra and entertained audiences throughout Central Texas during the 1930's. He was the godfather to Steven Noack and Daniel Perry. For 6 years before his death he participated in a research project as a volunteer patient with Dr. Per Langsjoen, a Scott & White Hospital cardiologist. The study involved measuring the effects of an enzyme on patients with heart muscle failure due to cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Helen; 2 sons, James Hubert Perry of Bryan and Danny Coffield Perry of Chula Vista, CA.; Bill Luckey of Rockdale, whom the family said Mr. Perry "loved as a son"; 3 grandchildren, Matthew James Perry, Julia Annette Perry and John Preston Perry.
