The Rev. Atchley died Friday, Jan. 1, 1993, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was born June 15, 1942, in Pittsburg, the son of Hadley L. and Vivian McBride Atchley.
The Rev. Atchley was on medical leave as pastor of the Centenary United Methodist Church. He had lived here since June 1983 when he moved here from Wellsville. He was a 1965 graduate of Pittsburg State University, where he received a degree in history. He later received a master of divinity degree from the St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Mo.
The Rev. Atchely was a member of the Kansas East Conference of the United Methodist Church. He had served Kansas churches in Toronto-Benedict-Coyville (1971-75); Dwight-Kelso Yoked Field (1975-77); Pomona-Richter (1977-80); Wellsville (1980-83) and Centenary United Methodist since 1983.
The Rev. Atchley married Nancy Bowen on Sept. 2, 1967, in Pittsburg. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Diane, of the home; a son, Sean David, of the home; his father, Hadley, of Pittsburg; three brothers, Brian, of Memphis, Tenn., James and John, both of Pittsburg; and a sister, Marsha Francis, Rose Hill.
