Dorothy Achen-Batson, 67, of Sequim, Wash., passed away on July 1, 2007 following a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born in St. Paul, Minn., on Nov. 30, 1939 to Burton and Kathleen Benecke.
The family moved to Hawthorne, Calif., where Dorothy graduated from Leuzinger High School in 1957. Dorothy met and married Larry Achen, her husband of 21 years, in 1957 and began raising four children. She retired from Bank of America where she started as a bank teller in 1969 and moved up to branch manager. After retiring, Dorothy moved to Galt where she was reunited with a high school friend, Mick Batson. They married the following year and moved to Sequim, Wash., to make their home.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of five years, Mick Batson; his three daughters and six grandchildren; her four children, Laurie (Bill) Schwartz of Escondido, Mark (Lisa) Achen of Meadow Vista, Mike (Angie) Achen of Corona, and Lisa (John) Krohn of Seattle, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Susan, Alison, Carrie, Kevin, Matt, Amanda and Lauren; brothers, Jerry Benecke and Greg Benecke; sisters, Dottie Koran, Gloria Bladel and Mary Smith.
Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Ben and sister June.
Dorothy is remembered for her passion for life and tireless efforts to help others. Her love of God, family and friends will eternally shine as an example of a selfless life devoted to making this world a more beautiful place.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Olympic Medical Cancer Center in Sequim, Wash., and Olympic Memorial Hospital in Port Angeles for their help and support.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held Saturday, July 28 at 11 a.m. at Olympic View Church of God in Sequim.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund has been established in Dorothy's name to provide for the Olympic View youth she so dearly loved. Donations may be made to Olympic View Church of God, 503 N. Brown Rd., Sequim, WA 98382.
