This is a cenotaph to his memory; he is not buried here. He died August 2, 1946 in the Soviet Union as a prisoner of war. His body was never recovered.

Karl, 6.Fürst zu Leiningen, was the son of Emich Eduard Carl, 5.Fürst zu Leiningen, and his wife, Prinzessin Feodora Victoria Alberta zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg. He was married at Coburg on November 25, 1925 to Grand Duchess Maria Kyrillovna of Russia.
