A native of Marietta, GA; came to Spartanburg about 25 years ago and had been engaged in business here since that time; president and treasurer of the Standard Machinery and Equipment Company of Spartanburg and also of the Spartanburg Finance Company.
A member of the Central Methodist Church, active in city affairs of a cultural, social, and religious nature.
Survived by his wife Effie Battle Kendall Dodgen (1887–1941); daughters, Sarah Dodgen Gordon (1907-1991) and Mary Read Dodgen Few (1912–1992), one sister, Georgia D. Bryant; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 pm, at the residence by Rev. F.C. Beach, Rev. W.H.K. Pendelton, and Rev. Eugene Few; interment in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
