Son of William Castleberry Jr. Revolutionary War Soldier for the Georgia Militia, served in the siege of Savannah, Ga and Cedar Springs, Spartanburg Co, SC. He was a Christian according to his obituary in the Greenville Mounaineer June 25, 1841 Greenville, SC. My GGGGG Grandfather.

State of South Carolina - Court (?)
Spartanburgh District - In this 29th day of Septr.


1832 personally appeared in open court before the
Judge of the court of commonpleas the (?) now
aforesaid aged 71 years & 6 months who being first (?)
make the following declaration in order
to obtain the benefit of the act on Congrefs [Congress]
pafsed [passed] June 7. 1832

That he [entered] ? the service of the U. States-
as a volunteer in 1777 under Capt. James Danly [or Danby]
& Col [Elija] Clarke & remained for two months & was (?)
changed [or charged] probably a short time, before that he
was drafted to serve a tour against the Creek
Indians under Captain Howard & Col. Dun & was
Stationed at Autrey’s(?) Fort where they remained for
two months & he was discharged. He was
again drafted & served under Capt. Danley(?) &
Col Clark & was stationed at the Cabord [or Covered]
bridge on the augusta Savannah River
where they remained for two months & was
discharged - He was again drafted -
under Capt Danley(?) - Leut. Blant [underlined letters questionable] & Col.
Twiggs. they marched through Georgia to
Midway when they had a battle with the enemy
after serving about 3 months & was disch-
=arged. He then drafted under Capt.
Danley & Col. Clark & was stationed at
Washington, Georgia guarding the Frontier
against the Cherokee Creek Indians. They served

two months this tour & was discharged - He
was again drafted & was stationed on Chiokan on
Kiokes Creek in Georgia under Capt. Danley(?)-
they were again guarding the fronteirs = he
Remained Stationed at that place for 3 months
& was discharged. He was again [volunteerd in] the
Army as a substitute under Capt Danley(?)
& marched on a scouting expedition against

the Creek Indians & served for 2 months after
which he was discharged - He again was volunteered
under Capt Beacham & Col Clark & Genl. Wayne
& was stationed at near Savannah & was at the battle of Savannah = and was in several light
engagements near that place. He remained there
(? one letter) on that tour between(?) three & four months when
he was regularly discharged. he left his disch-
-arge with his father [William Castleberry] & had no he understands
it was lost or misplaced by him = he __[didn’t]____(?) had [have]
any another(?) discharge except the above. He
has no documentory or [evidence] of his services - He
was born on the first on March 1761 = on Tar
River in Virginia, his parents, while he was very
young Removed to Orange County, NC &
from that place to Newberry District South Car
-olina & from that place to Richmond County
Georgia where he lived when at home until
after the siege of Savannah. When he removed
to Spartanburgh District South Carolina
where he now resides. He refers to the Rev Joshua
Richards & George Robuck to prove his services
& his character as a man of veracity. He
He hereby Relinquishes every claim whatever
to any person or ______? except the persons(?)
& declares that his (name?) is not on the k____?

Mr Joshua Richards a clergyman residing in the
Spartanburgh District and George Roebuck residing
in the Same District do hereby on our oath testify
that we are well aequainted with George
Paul Castleberry who has suscribed and sworn
to the above declaration that we believe him
to be 71 years & six months of age that he
is reported & believed in his neighborhood
to have been a soldier of the Revolution and
we confess in that opinion.

opinion after the investigation of the matter & after
putting the investigation purscribed by the war
Department that the above named applicant
was a revolutionary soldier served as he states -

it that Joshua Richards who has signed the preceeding
certificate is a clergyman resident in Spartanburgh
District & that Geo. Roebuck is a resident of
the same district & is a credible person & that
their statement is entitled? in court.
