Emma was born on March 13, 1884 to Anna (Andersen) and Andrew Magnusen (Magnisson?)in Burr Oak, Iowa. She shares this birthdate with her twin sister, Amelia. Their parents were born in Denmark...the father being a ship captain (or crew member?). After Emma's younger sister Victoria was born, it appears the parents parted although the circumstance is unknown. Her mother Anna remarried, and Peter Petersen became the dad to all three girls. Anna and Peter had a son together, named Leo Billy Petersen, who was a half-brother to all three girls. Anna, Peter, Victoria, and Leo are all buried in the LeRoy Lutheran Cemetery in LeRoy, Mower county, MN. Her sister Amelia is buried in the Bloomfield Lutheran Cemetery south of Ostrander, MN.
Emma Peterson married Joseph Hooker Hatlestad in March of 1905 in LeRoy, MN.
Together, they had three children: Edmund J. (b. 1905), Gladys Viola (b. 1907), and Lyle Joseph (b. 1917).
Emma's husband Joe died in 1945, and he was buried in the LeRoy Lutheran Cemetery. Her son Edmund passed away in 1966 and is buried in Escondido, San Diego county, California.
Emma died on November 7, 1970 in Spring Valley, Fillmore County, MN. She was buried beside Joe in the LeRoy Lutheran Cemetery.
Son Lyle died in 1983 and is buried in the Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary in Phoenix, Maricopa Cty, Arizona.
Daughter Gladys passed away in 1985. She is buried beside her husband on the other side of Emma and Joe's headstone (one side of headstone bears the Hatlestad name, the other side reads Nelson).
