Kessler, who served as Edmond's mayor from 1952-56, died Thursday after suffering a stroke.
An Edmond resident since 1918, Kessler graduated from Edmond Public Schools and the University of Central Oklahoma.
He taught high school in Edmond for nine years and was principal of Edmond High School for five years.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1941 and was discharged in 1946 as a lieutenant commander.
Kessler was a former Edmond Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year and was inducted into the Edmond Hall of Fame in 1985.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine, three children and five grandchildren.
