Curt was one of eleven children born to Julius and Sena Andersen Maassen. Curt was born 11-12-1923. Curt and Jeannette were married January 4, 1968. Curt and Jeannette farmed northeast of Avoca until building their home in Avoca in 1984. Curt passed away 9-29-1985. Curt and Jeannette enjoyed golfing, playing cards and visiting with family and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 2 for Curt Ivan Maassen, 61. He died September 29, 1985 following a lengthy illness.
Curt was born near Avoca, Iowa on November 12, 1923, the son of Gustave Julleus and Sena Katherine Andersen Maassen. He was raised on a farm south of Avoca and attended school at Avoca, graduating with the class of 1940. Following graduation he worked at various jobs in the area until entering the Armed Services in November, 1948.
Following his discharge from the Army in December, 1949 Curt went into farming with his brother John, farming near Marne, Iowa for several years, and then moving to a farm in the Cuppy's Grove area of Shelby County in 1958. On January 4, 1968 he was united in marriage to Jeannette Schaaf Peters. They made their home on the farm until 1984 when they moved to Avoca. Curt was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette of Avoca, Iowa; her children, Dale Peters of Bellevue, Nebraska and Beverly (Mrs. Dennis) Ridnour of Glenwood, Iowa; two grandchildren; two sisters, Orpha Stamp of Walnut and Joan Andersen of Atlantic; seven brothers, Howard and Gerald, both of Avoca, Walter, Ralph and Francis, all of Walnut, John and Willis, both of Avoca; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Berthusen-Knutson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements with services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, Pastor Vickie Carroll officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.
