Lovie Marie Cockerham Pruitt, 90, of Frost, Texas, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, May 22, 2020. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery.

Lovie was born in Frost, Texas, on March 24, 1930, to the late Sill G. and Olive May (Holloway) Cockerham. She grew up in the surrounding areas having to move from place to place, sharecropping with her family picking cotton.

At the age of 17, she applied for and was accepted into a special Nursing program that had just started at the hospital in Waxahachie, where she eventually became the Head Surgical Nurse. Although she later left nursing to raise a family she eventually returned to that which she loved and continued nursing until she retired at the age of 75.

Lovie Marie’s life cannot be summed up by words, or a few paragraphs written upon paper, because she was so much more. The intricate details of her Love, & giving to others is written upon the hearts of those who remain, where love gives life to her memory, in a place where she will always live.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, LaVon; son, Danny; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters: Lelta, Juanita, Bernice, Virginia, and Estelle; and brothers: John D., James, Wallace, James Calvin, John Edgar.

Survivors include her sons, Lonnie and Dwayne Pruitt; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Pruitt; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; other family members and many friends. Z5
