Charlie was born in Henderson Co, TX to John Nelson and Louette Garner. His parents are buried in Carroll Springs Cemetery near the Henderson/Anderson County line. He farmed in Anderson County most of his life, moving from the Springfield community to Elkhart in 1964. He died at his home in Elkhart. He shares a stone with his wife, Winnie Ovell Davis Garner. He was survived by his wife; one son, Robert H. Garner of Nederland, TX; one daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Ruth) Thomas of Elkhart; two brothers, Grady Garner of Texarkana and George Earl Garner of Dallas; five sisters, Mrs. Ardell (Mattie) Harris and Mrs. Z. W. (Edna) Williams, both of Texarkana, AR, Mrs. J. M. (Katie) Brasfield of Tyler, Mrs. Jim (Tennie) Kirkwood of Carlsbad, NM and Mrs. Mann (Lou Ella) Boyd of Malakoff; two grandchildren, James Larry Thomas of Elkhart and Mrs. Kent (Bobbie) Lee of Nederland. His obituary appeared in the Palestine (TX) Herald-Press, Monday, 12 December 1977.
