"W. L. Bailey, an old time and highly esteemed citizen of Florence, died suddenly at his home in that place on the 17th instant, of heart disease. He was 37 years of age, a native of Maryland, and leaves a wife and three children, in comfortable circumstances. He was a member of Florence Lodge No. 4, A. O. U. W."
Daily Tombstone Epitaph (Tombstone, Cochise Co., AZ), January 26, 1886, p. [3]:
"W. L. Bailey died, at Florence, on the 17th. Deceased was a member of the A. O. U. W., and his widow will receive $2,000 from that order."
Note: The Ancient Order of United Workmen was the first fraternal benefit society to provide life insurance to its members.
