Mr. Cothren, 79, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Covington County Hospital in Collins. He was born in Franklin County on Dec. 30, 1922, to the late Gordy and Fannie Temple Cothren.
He was retired. He was a member of Middleton Creek Primitive Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers and sisters.
Survivors are his wife, Wilda Hancock Cothren of Meadville; sons, Jewell E. Cothren Jr. of Shreveport, La., and Jack Cothren of Greenwood; brother, Alfred Cothren of Meadville; sisters, Juanita Peterson of Smithdale and Nellie Rae Andrews of McComb; and three grandsons.
