In Memory of Eunice Catherine Stockdale passed away on May 15, 2020, at the age of 90. The daughter of Edward and Hulda Brandau, she was born on August 28, 1929, in rural Rudd, Iowa. Excelling at school, she graduated a year early.

She split her college career between Iowa Teacher’s College and the University of Dubuque. After one magical date with Homer, her future husband, she moved to Taos, New Mexico, to teach at a mission school. Their long-distance courtship blossomed into true love. They married on November 2, 1956, and farmed on the edge of Aplington until retirement.

Eunice loved teaching and devoted 24 years to the preschool in her home, impacting hundreds of little lives. She also taught GED classes, worked at the Aplington Library, and volunteered in numerous capacities, mostly at her church. In many ways, she built her life on faith, family, farming, and fun.

Select favorites included the Aplington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, music, books, gardening, Bible study, bridge, sewing, quilting, friendships, the annual women’s weekend, camping with the grandchildren, big and little trips, and the next adventure. At the age of 77, she tubed down a Wisconsin River with her family, celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary.

Loved ones who preceded her in death include Homer (husband), Edward and Hulda Brandau (parents), Reuben Brandau (brother), Alice Ohden (sister), and Alton Brandau (brother).

Her beloved children survive her: Susan Stockdale, Cynthia (Brian) Moore, Steven (Patti) Stockdale, and Carolyn (Randy) Farlow. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kelli (Brian) Whitney (Charlie and Sawyer), Blake (Shannon) Stockdale (Boone and Archer), Landon (Jessica) Moore (Henry and Hattie), Jordan Moore, Taylor (Bennett) Moser (Naomi), and Sara Farlow. Her sisters: Lucille Bisbee and Elinor Sinning. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Prayer Service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at a site yet to be determined, with private family burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Aplington.

Please check Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home website or Tuesday’s Courier for the location of the prayer service.
