Son of Johan G. and Anna Maria (Brobst) Bobst. In 1853 he left Rushville, Fairfield, Ohio and headed west along with other families. One of the first settlers of Pawnee county, Nebraska, along with Robert Turner, Jacob Adams and Robert Archer that was in the spring of 1854. They settled along the South Fork of the Nemaha River. He lived in the village of Pleasant Valley. Later it was called Cincinnati.

Events. April 4, 1854 staked his claim in Pawnee County, Nebraska. 1854 became Clerk of Elections, appointed Probate Judge by Nebraska Governor on November 4, 1854.
1855 appointed Director of the Territorial Board of Agriculture. August 3, 1857 appointed Pawnee County Treasurer. April 1, 1856 appointed Pleasant Valley, Pawnee County Postmaster.

Married Sarah Book on November 18, 1824 in Rushville, Ohio, father to 14 children: Mary, John, Matilda, George, Daniel, Anna, Jane, Thomas, Simon, Robert, Sarah, Samuel, Daniel and Martha.
