A memorial service celebrating the life of Richard “Rick” M. Brooks will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2016 in the chapel at DeLozier Funeral Service. Rick passed away on Friday, December 2, 2016. He was 53.

Born on April 3, 1963 in Nowata, OK, Rick was one of three children gifted to Milton and Mary (Atkins) Brooks. He was reared and educated in Chelsea, OK where he graduated with the Class of 1981. Rick furthered his education by attending OSU, graduating in 1985 with a major in Computer Science and a minor in English technical writing and mathematics. Then in 1987 Rick graduated from RSU with a Bachelors Degree in Business. On December 8, 1990, Rick married the love of his life Ronda Lynette Benge in a Tahlequah, OK ceremony. With this union, the couple were blessed with twin girls, Celeste and Cherish. After the birth of his daughters and because of his desire to be the very best father that he could; Rick went back to school. In 2004 he received his Masters Degree in Special Education because of the special needs of his daughters. Lynette was proud of her husband for all of his achievements over the years and called it an honor to be Rick’s wife.

Aside from all of his studies, Rick had a wonderful sense of humor. He was quick witted and enjoyed making others laugh. He also had a wide array of interests and hobbies. Rick loved to camp and this was something that he did as a young man with his parents and his twin brothers. It should surprise no one that Rick excelled at camping, because he held the badge of an Eagle Scout. This was something that he was truly proud of. He also enjoyed repelling off of cliffs and exploring caves. Always having the desire to learn, Rick enjoyed studying different languages and religions. He liked science fiction and many different genres of music.

This husband, father, brother, and friend who lived his life by his Quaker belief that all should live simply so others can simply live will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Rick is survived by his wife of 26 years, Lynette, daughters, Celeste and Cherish, brothers, Andy and Jerry Brooks, mother-in-law, Linda Benge, brother-in-law, Jim Benge and wife Jennifer, and their children Ty, Shawn, Micah, and Avery. Rick was proceeded in death by his parents, Milton and Mary Brooks.
