Born to Nicola Donato and Lucia Sylvestri LaPenna, she was 101 years old.
Antoinette was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church all of her life, where she also was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel sodality, for which she worked tirelessly. She is fondly remembered for her many years of making pizza fritta during the Big Time. Besides her beloved family and church, Antoinette's passion was working at one of the many sewing machines she mastered at the Rogat Shirt Company in Bangor, where she worked for many years with her father; and after that, at several garment factories in Roseto.
Retirement at age 75 brought a new hobby, that of making homemade pasta for her family and friends. Antoinette and her husband, Paul used to journey to Atlantic City once a month with people from the community, where she would bring her famous pasta for the Bingo winners.
Cooking for her family was always a treat of hers, and she entertained her family with her old fashioned receipts from her mother and grandmother. She especially loved making the traditional holiday foods so that she could pass her skills on to her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Katherine DiSimoni, two grandsons, Frank DiSimoni of Bethlehem, and Daniel DiSimoni and his wife Denise of Allentown; also a great grandson, Daniel Jesse Andre. Recently, Katherine added a new addition to the family, an Old English Bulldog named Lily, of whom Antoinette was very fond.
In addition, Antoinette leaves behind her sister, Mae Baratta and husband Dr. Anthony Baratta of Boca Raton, Fl.; youngest brother,
Dr. Robert LaPenna and his wife Beverly of Vero Beach, FL and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Paul; twin brother, Michael, sister, Anna LaValva, as well as grandson, Paul DiSimoni.
Fiore Funeral Home, Market Street in Bangor is in charge of all arrangements. Viewing and burial will be private.
