Glenda Bauer was born on September 23, 1922 near Stafford, Kansas to Elbert and Lucile (Salmon) Weir. She was raised on the farm near Stafford that her grandfather homesteaded. Graduating from Stafford High School with the class of 1939, she went on to attend Emporia State University and received her Bachelor’s in Education.

Glenda became a high school teacher, where she taught business classes. After a basketball game on a cold night in February of 1946, some of her students set her up to meet a farm boy named Lyle W. Bauer. The two were united in marriage on December 8, 1946. They made their home in the Harper area and were blessed with two sons, Thomas and Greg. After starting a family, Glenda became a homemaker and dedicated her time as a wife and mother.

A longtime member of the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church, Glenda enjoyed attending church and spent many years as a Sunday School teacher. She also enjoyed being a 4H leader and being a member of the Association of Conservation District Auxiliary, where she served as both a State and National President.
