The dates for Samuel Wesley Flippin are estimates. He married Nancy Mosby Lewis circa 1848 in Monroe County, Kentucky (their courthouse records prior to 1852 were destroyed in a fire).

The family moved from Monroe County, Kentucky to Texas then to Washington County, Arkansas where they were on 1860 census in Cane Hill Township. They were in Bourbon County, Kansas Territory for a short time per 1865 census where Samuel worked as a wagon maker. Then they returned to Cane Hill Township. Sometime after 1871 the family moved to Texas and lived in the counties of Hill, Johnson and Comanche. Prior to 1897, Samuel and Nancy divorced and he moved to Indian Territory (Oklahoma) where he married second to Elizabeth "Lizzie" Clark in 1899 in Seminole Nation. They lived in the area of Earlsboro. Samuel died in 1900.
