Daniel Hamsher was the son of Johan Adam Hamsher and Anna Margaretha Heckman.

Daniel served in the Revolutionary War from 1778-1783. He was a ranger in the Berks County Militia and later the Northampton County Militia. On October 14, 1783, in Schoenersville, Pennsylvania, Daniel married Elizabeth Catherine Waltman. Daniel and Catherine had children: Valentine, Adam, Daniel, Peter, Jacob, Bernard, Barbara, Katherine, Elizabeth, Conrad, and John. Daniel took part in the Sullivan Expedition of 1799. He moved his family to western New York in 1810.
