Born in Missouri, Montie moved with his father and step-mother to Selah at the age of 13, where he attended school. He began driving truck at an early age for McPherson Trucking Co. and continued working for them until ill health forced his retirement in 1968.
He married Kathleen Terrien in 1942. Shortly after his marriage, he entered the service, serving in the Army Medical Corps during World War II with the 48th General Hospital, attached to Patton's 5th Army. He served in the North Africa campaign, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany, returning to Selah in 1945.
He was a member of the several local organizations, including the United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and Selah Silver Set. He was a first officer of the Arm Chair Possee of the Yakima Junior Sheriff Possee and Posse-Ettes and was active in 4-H groups.
