James is the son of William & Sarah Smith Henderson. He and his 1st wife, Mehitable had 9 children.

Service: James Henderson was placed on Pension Roll in 1832. Served as a private for 11 months in Capt Seth Warner & Capt Joseph McCracken's Co, Col Van Schaick's New York regiment & in 1776 & 1777 in Capt Caleb Orves' Co. of Col William Williams' Regiment. He enlisted in May 1775 at Salem, Wash.Co.NY. His regiment remained at Albany for two weeks then marched northward to guard the frontier. Stopped at Fort Edwards, Whitehall & Ticonderoga in all about ten weeks. Two large gunboats were built there. Was in & around Lake Champlain until after the surrender of Burgoyne. Had also lived at Halifax, VT
