"He has a huge heart," 2007 El Molino graduate Alex Margolies, 18, of Guerneville said Friday. "He's not necessarily the kind of smart that gets good grades, but the kind of smart who can talk to people and deal with people. He's really good at comforting people."
Ahm was found dead in his bedroom in Guerneville on Wednesday morning. The cause of death is under investigation.
Older sister Erica Deck recalled Ahm as a trustworthy friend, self-taught guitarist and upbeat teenager who was looking forward to starting a new job at Safeway.
Ahm lived with his father, his uncle and his cousin, Seth, with whom he was very close, she said, and loved trips to the coast and bands, including his favorite, Atmosphere.
"It was amazing to me sometimes that he had such a positive attitude," said Deck, 36, who lives in Keaau, Hawaii.
Born in Sonoma County, Ahm began attending Guerneville School as a fourth-grader, family and friends said.
"He's a real funny guy," said 16-year-old Justice Tudor, who attended Guerneville and El Molino schools with Ahm. "He always made everyone laugh. Everybody came to him if we had problems."
In addition to his older sister, survivors include father Charlie Ahm of Guerneville and mother Theresa Dougherty of Santa Rosa, brother Dwayne Ahm of Guerneville, brother Justin Lollie, grandmother Bonnie Horn and many other relatives.
A graveside service is set for noon Tuesday at the outdoor chapel in Redwood Memorial Gardens, at Woodland Drive and Sunset Avenue in Guerneville.
Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society & SPCA of Sonoma County, P.O. Box 1296, Santa Rosa 95402-1296.
