Professional Hockey Player, Olympic Gold Medalist. He was a hockey, bandy, and association football player. Born Åke Gustav Andersson in Stockholm, Sweden, he was a member of the famed Hammarby IF hockey club. He played the position of both forward and defenseman for the club from 1932 to 1957. With Hammarby IF he played in 161 games, scored 57 goals, and he helped lead them to win six championship titles in 1936, 1937, 1942, 1943, 1945, and 1951. In the 1936 championship games, he was the top leading scorer. He was named the club's manager in 1951. After World War II, he became the Team Captain of Sweden's National Team and led them to numerous wins from 1945 to 1954. He represented his native Sweden at the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland, where they came in fourth place, and at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Oslo, Norway, where they won the bronze medal in the team event. At the World Championship level, he would go on to win a silver medal at the 1947 Ice Hockey World Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia, a silver medal at the 1951 World Ice Hockey Championships in Paris, France, a gold medal at the 1953 Ice Hockey World Championships in Switzerland, and a bronze medal at the 1954 Ice Hockey World Championships in Stockholm, Sweden. He retired from international hockey in 1954, but he continued on as a coach with Hammarby IF until he retired from the organization in 1957. For his contributions to the sport of hockey and bandy, he was twice awarded the Swedish sports honorary award the Stora Grabbars Marke (Big Boys Badge). He passed away in Södertälje, Sweden, at the age of 64.
