The Chino Champion (Chin, CA), February 19, 1926
MRS. BELLE A. CASSADY
Mrs. Belle A. Cassady was born in Queensville, Ind., January 23, 1854, and died February 11, at the age of 72 years. She married Peter Orison Dillon in 1872. Mr. Dillon died in 1879. In 1889 she married Thomas Cassady, who died in 1912. Since his death she has made her home with her only son and child, Arthur Orison Dillon, well known attorney of Ontario, who formerly made his home in Chino.
Besides her son she leaves a brother in the east and a brother in Montana to mourn her loss.
For the past twelve years she has lived in California, eight and one-half years in Chino, and since July, 1922, in Ontario.
Mrs. Cassady was descended from ancestors who were among the fonders and builders of the United States. In colonial days and in the formative period of the republic they were prominent as soldiers and clergymen and in political life. Two were colonial governors, to-wit: Bryan Pendleton of Maine and Joseph Jenckes of Rhode Island. She was the ninth in descent from Edwin Sandys, the Archbishop of York. Two of his sons were officers in the Virginia company, which company had much to do with the colonization of America. In her family tree also are General Nathaniel Greene, Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, Gilbert Charles Stuart and others who rendered large services to their country.
She loved her country deeply and sincerely. She loved her home and made that home worthy of her love. She loved the beautiful in nature and the spiritual in life. This love shaped her character and destiny. Courage, fortitude and strength were outstanding in her character.
She was a devoted, heroic mother, a true-hearted woman and a loyal friend. Her burdens were many, but she bore them patiently until the end.
She revered in God. Her faith was in Christ. In girl-hood she became a Christian.
Funeral services were held in Ontario Saturday afternoon and were attended by a large number of members of the Rebekah Lodge of this place.
“She so lived that when the summons came to join The Innumerable caravan, which moves.”
