Fayette County - CLARENCE R. PROSSER, 77, resident of the Burrowtown Community, retired employee of Schering-Plough Company in Memphis and U.S. Army Korean War Veteran, died August 9, 2007. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Interment, with military honors, will be in the Macedonia Cemetery at Arlington. A visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Peebles West Chapel. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Martha Abel Prosser; his children, Debbie Edwards of Burrowtown and Danny "Bubba" Prosser of Memphis; three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. CLARENCE PROSSER – 1930-2007 – Clarence Readis Prosser, resident of the Burrowtown Community in Fayette County, United States Veteran and husband of Martha Prosser, died at 1:50 PM Thursday, August 9, 2007 at the Willow Creek Rehabilitation & Nursing Facility in Belleville, Illinois, where he has been a resident for the past 6 months. He was 77 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Prosser were conducted at 2 PM Sunday, August 12th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland, with Rev. John Ed Watkins, Pastor of Morris Chapel Baptist Church at Somerville officiating. Interment, with Military Honors followed in the Macedonia Cemetery near Arlington. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-West Chapel.
A native of Tipton County, Tennessee, Mr. Prosser was born April 28, 1930 the son of the late Timothy J. Prosser and the late Lottie Stafford Prosser. He received his education in the Shelby County Public School system and served in the United States Army during the Korean War period from 1951 to 1953.
Mr. Prosser was married December 26, 1951 to the former Martha Abel, a native of Fayette County and retired Security Signals Corporation employee, who survives. Mr. Prosser was a retired mechanic for Schering-Plough Corporation in Memphis, where he was employed for over 20 years.
He was an active member of the Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Somerville and enjoyed participating in the Adult Sunday School Class of the Church. Mr. Prosser will be remembered as an avid conversationalist who enjoyed people and visiting with family and friends.
His interest in earlier years included camping and out-of-door activities, and he was an active participant in securing funds for the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Shelby County. Patriotism and loyalty to his country were an important part of Mr. Prosser's life, and he enjoyed Gospel music of all types.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Debbie Edwards and husband David of the Burrowtown Community; his son, Danny "Bubba" Prosser and wife, Joni of Memphis; two sisters; Margaret Hollingsworth of Arlington and Zettie Mae Glover of Somerville; three grandchildren, Casey Edwards, James Bunkley and Richard Bunkley, and seven great-grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Kenny German, Robert Hardee, Thurman Hardee, Robert Edward Holden, Jesse Prosser and Kevin Treadway.
The family request that Memorials be directed to the Macedonia Cemetery Fund, 11422 Macedonia, Rd., Arlington, TN 38002.
