Alvera M. Bowman, 91, a long-time resident of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully, in her sleep, Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015. She was born Feb. 7, 1924, in Colorado.

As a business woman and mother of three, she not only raised her own children and watched them grow into adults, she was also involved in several businesses that did quite well, as she watched Las Vegas grow with her family. Folks who have been in Las Vegas since the 1950's, will certainly remember Bowman's Riding Stables on West Oakey and the old lodge at Mount Charleston.

As Las Vegas grew, Alvera was instrumental in starting and growing Broad Acres Swapmeet into the booming business it is today! As office manager, Alvera took care of everything from space rentals to customer relations. She was loved by her employees and vendors alike. Alvera retired 10 years ago, and was able to live alone and take care of herself until the last days of her life.

She passed away at home surrounded by her family and long-time companion, Margarita Moreno. Alvera is survived by her two sons and their wives, Dolph and Nedi Bowman and Jake and Bernice Bowman; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. As a strong Christian woman dedicated to Jesus Christ, we rejoice in the fact that we will see her again.
