Jene was born August 18, 1939 in Lincoln, NE to his late parents, August and Olga Jenson Nissen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Ann Nissen, three brothers: Don, Bob and Jim, and sister, JoAnn.
Jene joined the US Navy in 1957, serving in multiple ships and Command Staffs, he served as a Patrol Boat Captain in Vietnam, and as a recruiter until his retirement as Chief Petty Officer in 1979. When he wasn’t in the service, you could find him on his goat farm with his loving wife and children. He loved to dance and drive his Ford Mustang, and was very proud of all of his children.
Left to cherish his memory are his four children: Jene Nissen, Jr. and his wife, Dory, of Chesapeake, VA, Kevin Tallon and his wife, Peggy, of Virginia Beach, VA, Erin Carr and her husband, Ed, of Raleigh, NC, and Holly Hilbrands and her husband, Mark, of Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren; special friends, Mike and Verna Bradley; several nieces and nephews; and many other friends whose hearts he touched along the way.
The family will hold a memorial service at WNC State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
